Planetary Health Forum ’23 – First Planetary Health Conference in Germany

  • 30 November – 1 December 2023, in Berlin (Germany) and online | The recordings will be available shortly.
  • Preparatory workshops were held on 19 October and 2 November

Under the patronage of the German Federal Minister of Health, Prof Karl Lauterbach, and Steffi Lemke, the German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, we invite you to the Planetary Health Forum. The first conference on planetary health in Germany, bringing together stakeholders from health, climate, and environmental protection, and representing diverse sectors including politics, industry, academia, and civil society.

With short keynote lectures, interactive workshops, and panel discussions the Planetary Health Forum aims to forge innovative alliances, foster the exchange of ideas, and nurture collaboration. Our collective objective is to transcend sector boundaries, promote mutual learning, and strengthen trust and coordination among participants. Together, our goal is to incubate and deliberate on fresh ideas, narratives, methods, and policies that will lead to a future of health that is aligned within planetary boundaries.

Please note that the conference language including both preparatory workshops will be German. Sessions that will take place in English are annotated accordingly in the programme.

„Climate protection always also means health protection. To prevent further global warming, the Federal Government works to combine the competencies of different stakeholders. Only if action is closely aligned across all policy fields concerned will it be possible to save current and future generations from even worse health impacts of climate change. Awareness of the consequences of climate change – such as the increasing number of heat-related deaths – is far too low.”

„The health impacts of the climate crisis can already be felt all over the world – in Germany and Europe, too. At the Federal Environment Ministry, we support integrated and holistic approaches to tackling the crisis like the planetary health approach. A healthy natural environment, healthy plants, healthy animals and healthy humans are all inextricably linked. As patron of the Planetary Health Forum, I am showing my support for cross-sectoral cooperation to achieve better planetary health.”
